Janine Popick is the CEO and Founder of VerticalResponse, a leading provider of self-service email marketing, online surveys, social media, event marketing and direct mail solutions empowering small businesses to create, manage and analyze their own direct marketing campaigns.
She is a columnist for Inc.com and the Huffington Post, and has been featured in USA Today, Entrepreneur magazine, ClickZ, BtoB magazine, Selling Power magazine, San Francisco Business Times and Inside Direct Mail. She was an Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year finalist from 2006 to 2009, and won the Stevie Award for Best Entrepreneur of the Year from 2008 to 2011. Janine also won the U.S. Small Business Administration award for Small Business Person of the Year in San Francisco.

Janine brings over 20 years of experience leading direct and Internet marketing programs for some of the biggest brands in technology and entertainment. Prior to VerticalResponse, Janine led direct and Internet marketing programs for brands including NBC Internet; XOOM.com; Claris Corp., a wholly owned subsidiary of Apple Inc.; and Symantec Corporation.
In her spare time, Janine is VerticalResponse's CEB (Chief Executive Blogger) for the VerticalResponse Marketing Blog for Small Businesses. Janine holds a Bachelor's degree from Hofstra University in communications and English. She has been a private investor and serves as an adviser and board member for various companies.
When Janine's not in the office, she's likely hanging out in Tahoe alongside her husband and their puppy, Dwight. She has won the award in the office for getting the most packages delivered in a one-week period from the daily deal sites.
As Chief Operating Officer, Dave is responsible for the daily operations of VerticalResponse, including technology, engineering, operations, business development finance and human resources. Dave focuses on delivering profitable growth through improved business processes, stronger data analytics, and team development. Dave brings over 20 years of high technology experience to the company. He began his career providing assurance and business advisory services to both private and public companies, primarily while with Arthur Andersen in San Francisco. Dave has held senior leadership roles at SGI, Travelocity and most recently Informative, Inc. a venture backed provider of interactive online tools, where he served as the Chief Financial Officer. Dave holds a Bachelor of Arts in Business/Economics from the University of California at Santa Barbara and is a Certified Public Accountant, inactive and Certified Valuation Analyst.
Dave is a proud new father and dressed his infant up as a piece of sushi for Halloween. He has an impressive penny collection and a pretty decent football card collection – including O.J. Simpson's rookie card (for better or worse).
As Senior Vice President of Technology, Product and Operations, Eric is responsible for all infrastructure and projects related to product, architecture, engineering and operations. Eric brings more than 30 years of senior-level experience at both established and startup technology companies, with extensive expertise in planning, budgeting and executing business methods and processes as well as systems development, data center operations and product management.
Eric's career includes serving as vice president/COO at healthcare information technology company Anvita Health; vice president of operations at B2B e-commerce service provider CyberSource Corp.; president/COO at Epylon Corp., where he led the company through a successful acquisition by Accenture; and vice president of operations at startup Zip2 Corp.
He also served as a vice president at Visa, where he oversaw data center service delivery and customer service for its entire VisaNet electronic payments processing network. Additionally, Eric spent over 15 years at First Interstate Bank of California, holding vice president positions in network services and systems development. Most recently, he founded Zeus Analytics, a business intelligence software company, where he also served as COO.
Eric has a nine-year-old Yellow Labrador/Golden Retriever mix named Callie and encourages everyone to visit their local animal shelter to find their new best friend. He also once played a more-than-convincing 'Buckwheat' for Halloween.
As Vice President of Platform Management, Josh is responsible for driving innovation and development across the VerticalResponse platform. Josh has the proud distinction of being VerticalResponse's first employee (circa 2001) and his passion for helping small businesses grow and succeed continues to burn strong. During his tenure at VerticalResponse, Josh has built and managed high-functioning teams across the product management, customer support, and email delivery and compliance departments.
Prior to VerticalResponse, Josh worked at NBC Internet within the direct marketing group (NBCi Direct). In addition to supporting an online directory of over 300,000 small businesses, he also played a pivotal role in the production and deployment of targeted email marketing campaigns. During his time at NBCi, Josh contributed to the rapid growth of NBC Internet's small business customer base. Josh holds a Bachelor's degree in Psychology and English from the University of Vermont.
Josh has a fraternal twin, started his post-college career as a ski bum on the slopes of Colorado, and absolutely hates it when people cut their nails while riding public transportation – you just never know where those fingernail mortar rounds are going to land.

As Vice President, Social Platform, Alex is responsible for leading the development and growth of VerticalResponse's social marketing product, building innovative and easy-to-use social marketing tools exclusively focused on the needs of small businesses and non-profits.
Alex is part entrepreneur, part large-scale operating executive who has experience as a successful startup founder and e-commerce executive. Prior to VerticalResponse, he was the founder of Roost.com, a leading social media marketing platform for small businesses. The Roost social marketing toolkit (now part of VerticalResponse) helps companies to easily and efficiently create and manage social media marketing programs. Prior to founding Roost, Alex ran the online service division for Walmart.com and had P&L responsibility for Walmart.com's online photo, pharmacy, travel, ISP businesses and more. In 1997, Alex co-founded his first technology startup, GetawayZone, which was an early pioneer in the online vacation rental industry. The company joined VacationSpot.com and was subsequently acquired by Expedia in 2000. Alex began his career in the advertising industry in San Francisco and has an MBA from UC Berkeley's Haas School of Business.
Alex is a recovering golf addict, a transplanted Boston sports fan and besieged father of two. "I love building new things and my kids love breaking them."
As the Vice President of Marketing, John is responsible for overseeing all of VerticalResponse's branding as well as all customer acquisition and retention efforts.
John is a marketing veteran with 20 years of experience working at a wide variety of advertising agencies. Prior to joining VerticalResponse, he held leadership positions at agencies such as Hub Strategy, Monster Worldwide and Modem Media, as well as ad networks including Jumpstart Automotive Media and Adknowledge. His clients have come in all sizes from startups like Slingbox and Ooma, to Fortune 500 businesses such as Sprint, H&R Block and Kodak. John's experience has always struck a balance between building brands and driving direct response programs. John holds a Bachelor's of Science in journalism from the University of Kansas, where he graduated summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa.
When he's not renovating his new house, John enjoys swing dancing and doing the Lindy Hop – hopefully without his toolbelt on.
In her role as Vice President of Product Management, Lisa directs strategy and spearheads all initiatives for our products and services. She comes to VerticalResponse as a seasoned, collaborative and creative leader with more than 28 years of experience in product management, business strategy, marketing and sales. Most recently, she was Vice President of Augmentation Services at Augmentum Inc., an international software services company. During her tenure, she directly managed requirements gathering for various software development projects, servicing clients ranging from the New York Stock Exchange to high-profile Silicon Valley startups.
Before Augmentum, Lisa held Vice President of Product positions at enterprise software company Vitria Inc. and e-commerce and services provider Epylon.com. She also spent several years with Sun Microsystems, working in marketing and product management. Lisa has an MBA in Industrial Marketing from Columbia University and an AB with high honors in Comparative Literature from Princeton University.
In 1982, Lisa spent three months alone in India, writing an article on Bollywood before it was Bollywood.
As Vice President of Sales & Support, Kristen leads the account management, inside sales and customer support teams at VerticalResponse. Kristen brings 18 years of sales and technology management experience to this role, and specializes in leading high-performing teams through periods of growth and change. She is charged with promoting an exceptional customer experience, as well as expanding VerticalResponse touch points across the customer base to build revenue and retain customers.
Prior to joining VerticalResponse, Kristen served as the Director of Sales & Marketing for Ascentis Corporation, a human resources software firm where she was responsible for building and maintaining brand awareness, as well as growing the customer base through both direct and partner sales. Her experience also includes serving as Director of Business Development at Millennium Resources, an executive training firm, where she increased the customer base by over 50 percent, and Northwest Regional Sales Manager for First Communications (now BrassRing), where she grew her team to become the top producing region in the U.S. Kristen received her MBA from the University of Washington and her Bachelor’s degree in business administration and marketing from Seattle Pacific University.

Kristen spent most of middle school and high school living in Papua New Guinea, surrounded by crystal clear water and incredible coral and fish. Looking back, she wished she spent less time sulking and more time snorkeling.
