A Friendly Suggestion to Our Competitor

I’m all about getting new business, but we’ve tried to steer clear of going after our competitor’s customers because we think there are enough businesses out there that need  email marketing services. I will also say I don’t think it’s wrong to go after a competitor’s customer either.

We have a ton of respect for many of our competitors and find them very cool and friendly. So as a friendly competitor I have a suggestion for iContact: If you’re going to target our customers, at least spell our company name correctly. Best of luck at Dreamforce!

This is hilarious! Thanks for the good laugh. I needed that.

iContact…uh…how original? If it was an ad to make one laugh…it worked!

Unbelievable, if you’re going to go after someone’s consumer base at least do enough research about the company to spell their name correctly. Everyone knows the golden rule is to never down play your competitor, it looks bad on your part.

  4. My question is how long did it take to stop laughing after you stumbled over this delicious sign? Great job getting it photographed and posted in this “friendly suggestion” post — *golf clap*

If you are going to target your competitor’s customers perhaps it makes sense to target the one with the most customers. However, it also seems an invitation to wonder, “why does VR have more customers?”
This seems to be a case of “Ready, Shoot, Aim”.

  6. Michael says:

Vertical Response is where we ended up after LEAVING iContact! I’m so glad we left.

  7. Morgan says:

Unbelievable! I have no “reponse” to that. We actually considered iContact before choosing VerticalResponse.

Marketing Fail. Nice job capitalizing on that.

  10. A bit desperate/pathetic in my opinion.
iContact also blatantly ripped Campaign Monitor’s banner ad creative – http://bit.ly/9QYJl – a while back.
I say get your own ideas iContact. Your target market isn’t a bunch of morons. Try touting the benefits of your service, as opposed to imitating your competitors and going after their customers.
(Also, I find it humorous that they put Special Offer in quotes, like it’s not really all that special.)

  11. TS says:

Do you think the other sign was targeting REPONSYS customers???

  12. KentMcGovern says:

How to make yourself look like an idiot in one easy step.

  13. Kim says:

That is outrageous on so many levels.
