According to a recent article in the New York Times, more than $2 million was raised in only 12 hours to fund a movie version of “Veronica Mars”.  How the heck did they do that? Kickstarter baby. The big daddy of crowdfunding comes through again. According to the Times,” On Wednesday night fans and supporters of that show about a wisecracking young sleuth (played by Kristen Bell) pledged more than $2 million to produce a “Veronica Mars” movie, less than 12 hours after the fund-raising drive was announced on Kickstarter.”

The Times goes on to state, “Mr. Thomas (the creator and producer) told fans they had 30 days to raise $2 million for “our shot” at producing a film, adding, “I believe it’s the only one we’ve got.” And by about 9 p.m. that goal was met, with pledges continuing to come in on Day 2.”

At the time of writing at 2:36 p.m. on Thursday 3/14/13,the project had been promised more than $2.8 million from more than 46,000 backers!

Just another example of how crowdfunding can really give your business the kick start it needs.
