Social Without Good Content is Like Peanut Butter Without Jelly

If I made a nickel for every time someone asked me “How do I get more Likes to my Facebook Page” or “I’d like more followers on Twitter but I just don’t know how,” I’d be very rich by now. Well, I’m here to tell you that there isn’t a magic bullet or some $99 course that will get you what you are looking for. It is going to take commitment and it all starts with the content you choose to put out there.

Most people really underestimate the power of the content they are sharing. This is what’s going to get you noticed; provide a reason for people to engage and keep them coming back for more. Now we all know that this is not always the case, especially if you are a well-known brand like Coke, Starbucks or Best Buy. Those guys could put up anything and people would probably follow them. But even these brands know the importance of producing great content to not only initiate engagement, but also keep people coming back time and again.

So what dictates good content? Content can come in many shapes and forms. There are blog posts, photos, status updates, videos and links to other people’s content. But before you start sending stuff out, you have to decide what content is going to resonate with your audience best.

If you’re someone like a restaurateur, your content is more than likely going to center around photos. People want to visualize what that meal is going to look like and words just can’t do it justice. On the other hand, if you have a product or service that needs a deeper clarification or explanation, a blog post, status update or video might be just what the doctor ordered.

But just putting out any content at all seems to be a huge issue for a lot of people. If you give nothing, how can you expect people would want to engage or follow you? This is why finding a cadence, even if the content is not perfect, is probably the most import place to start.
