3 Search Engine Optimization Must-Dos
Did you know just a little search engine optimization (SEO) magic will do wonders for your website and business? With that, we have 3 simple SEO to-dos that’ll not only make a positive difference for your site, but you can knock ’em out in no time. So crack open that laptop, grab a brew (it’s been proven to increase productivity *wink, wink*) and let’s get to work!
1.Top Level Keyword Research:
Keywords can be a bit of a mystery if you aren’t familiar with them, but lucky for you, we’ve got this super helpful keyword video! Spend a few minutes to watch it, then jot down a list of products or services your company offers.
Next, use the Google Adwords Tool and plug in all those products or services you wrote down. Be sure to select the “Exact Match” box only, then click “search.” The results will give you some great data and insights as to which keywords are better than others based on how many people search for them globally and locally. Use this data to decide which keywords are worth using and which ones you can lose.
Pro Tip: Pick keywords with a good mixture of competition and search volume.
Helpful tools to use:
Google AdWords Tool: The end-all and be-all of keyword research tools.
Ubersuggest: Great for exploring long tail keywords. Once you explore some log tail keywords or phrases, make sure to plug them into the Google AdWords Tool to ensure they get enough traffic to make them worthwhile.
2. Check Your Citations
Have you ever asked yourself, “How do I get on Google, Bing and all the other search engines?” The short answer is that you need to get cited! Not like a parking ticket, but more of a listing just like in the old Yellow Pages. Use a site like GetListed to check where your business is listed on the Internet. Not only will it help you get listed, but it will also tell you how to get on the ones where your business is missing. Here’s a helpful post about getting listed. Spend some quality time to write up a nice little “About Us” blurb for your business using some of your new keywords. Some sites will add your business right away, others may take a few weeks to get posted. Check back every so often to see what your status is.
3. Basic On-Page SEO
On-page SEO (what the user and search engines see when the page is displayed) can be like trying to wrestle a greased pig if you haven’t armed yourself with the right tools of the trade. Boostsuite makes it really easy. Even if you haven’t got a clue about meta titles, descriptions or URL structure, the Boostsuite crew will guide you step-by-step. For the more tech savvy folks, they’ll also give you some suggestions on what to include in your meta data.
